Dietary changes form an important weapon against gout. It may be hard to change your usual dietary plans, but it will be an important aspect of the process of controlling gout. You should start by including a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits which are two known natural anti-inflammatory remedies. You should also limit yourself from taking foods that increase the level of uric acid in the body.
High levels of uric acid are the primary cause of gout. Uric acid is a byproduct of purine. Usually, the kidneys flush out uric acid from the body. When the uric acid levels become excessive, sharp crystals are formed which are then deposited in joints causing pain. - 1 cucumber, 1 mango, 4 carrots, 1 slice of pineapple, 1 lime, and 1 ounce of fresh strawberries. Cut these ingredients well and use a smoothie maker or juicer to make juice. Drink the juice twice every day to lower swelling and inflammation and to prevent future attacks.
- 1 Qt of cold water, and 1 ounce of cranberries. Boil the cranberries in the water for about 3 minutes and pour the liquid into a strainer. Take 3 glasses of the tincture daily to help in flushing out uric acid.
- Tomato juice. Take 3 glasses of tomato juice daily to lower uric acid levels.
- Water and baking soda. Mix baking soda with water just enough to form a paste and rub the paste on affected areas. This acts as a natural treatment for inflammation.
- 1 tablespoon of soy oil and 3 drops of rosemary oil. Mix the two then rub on affected joints to relieve pain.
- 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon of wheat bran, 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Mix the ingredients to form a poultice then apply it to swollen joints.
- Oil of elder. Using maximum strength on a cotton pad or ball, place it on the affected area.
- Citrus fruits, watermelon, cherries, parsley, and bananas. You should take lots of these fruits every day. They are helpful in lowering the levels of uric acid. Foods rich in vitamin C aid in breaking down uric acid and flushing it out. Bananas contain folic acid, vitamin C, and potassium which are important compounds that relieve gout. Parsley, a low purine garnish, also has folic acid and vitamin C. Watermelon is an excellent anti-oxidant that helps to clean blood.

- During acute flares, refrain from walking as this increases pressure to joints leading to more pain and inflammation. You should elevate the affected areas above the heart.
